Welcome back to a new year, Cougars!
We are going to try out a new ensemble during the CLUB time on Tuesdays this year. We'll come up with a better name for it later, but for now, let's just call it the Cougar Chorale. There are many singers on this campus, but for whatever reason, they are not able to fit choir into their schedule or make time for a before or after school ensemble. The solution? A club that meets once a week during 5th period. We will meet on Tuesday, September 3 during 5th period to discuss our vision for the ensemble and to make sure that it sounds like a good fit for everyone who has expressed an interest in joining. This is YOUR ensemble. I want you all to have a chance to create the ensemble that you are most invested in and perform the type of music you most enjoy! Is it A Cappella? Gospel Choir? Traditional Choral? Musical Theatre? Show Choir/Vocal Jazz? Pop/Stage/Screen? Madrigal Singers? Motown and Oldies? Barbershop? You tell me. That's what we will talk about at our meeting and decide as an group what our vision might be overall. Maybe you want to explore a few different styles. It's open to your ideas. So...what do you need to do next? 1. Click here to complete this singer information survey and RESERVE YOUR SPOT at the informational meeting on 9/3. Part of the survey asks you to indicate when you will come to audition in person, or that you submit a video of yourself performing at least a verse and chorus of a song with some type of accompaniment (it can be instrumental, or a YouTube karaoke track). After all auditions have been reviewed, students who have been selected to join the ensemble will receive an email on Monday, 9/2 with an invite to attend the meeting during 5th period on 9/3. A list of student names will be sent out to teachers for attendance purposes. 2. After the initial meeting on Tuesday, 9/3, you will have the rest of the week to decide if you want to be part of the ensemble or not. The first official rehearsal will be the following week on 9/10. I look forward to hearing many of you next week and I hope you will share this opportunity with any friends you know who are also able to sing and might be a good fit for this group! The more the merrier!

We did a thing...
Since we weren't able to do a winter concert this year, we put together a few solos from some students who were willing to share their songs, combined with some of our favorite memories from last year. This has been a very challenging semester, particularly for choir, as we navigate the waters of virtual learning. One of the things that stood out the most is how we miss being together and singing together in the same space. Music isn't just about the notes on the page, it's about the voices and the individuals, and the energy that resonates through the music and the room when we work together to create an audible art. Here's to a new year! Out with the new, and back to the old! Wishing everyone a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season. Wow! What a crazy week this has been with the snow. I hope everyone has been safe and warm during this time. While I enjoyed a few days of...forced relaxation...this has certainly thrown us for a loop in preparing for our concerts!
Here is an update:
Tickets for both events are $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for students/seniors, and children ages 5 and under are FREE. Due to low participation, our talent show scheduled for this evening has been cancelled. We plan to reschedule in the spring. Please check back later for updates.
